Begin At The Beginning
Posted on January 08, 2010 by heather in Featured Videos, Shows, Videos, WarBikesWar-Bikes? Interesting concept. And now that I’ve thought about it, well, it makes perfect sense. Motorcycles have been used in combat areas just as fighters in aerial combat. The aviation and motorcycle industries have woven histories for over a hundred years.
So how exactly did WarBikes start?
Let me introduce the Commemorative Air Force.
For those of you who are unaware of this flying history organization, they boast over 9,000 members (known as ‘Colonels’) and have units worldwide. They were originally known as the ‘Confederate Air Force’, pulled together from a bunch of pilots who adopted, restored and flew military aircraft. Bombers. Fighters. Trainers.
They headquarters in Texas and are recognized as “The Official Air Force of Texas” – really. The CAF mission is to acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.
When they decided to celebrate their 50th Anniversary, they came up with the crazy idea of having a motorcycle built to commemorate the Commemorative Air Force.
That was step one.
