This video on youtube comes from a song called “Warrior Song”, to which someone has added footage of aircraft from air shows. It’s currently making the rounds via facebook and twitter, so I thought I’d slap it up here to see what your thoughts are.

It’s a pretty rousing song, the footage is great. One guy in the office tried to name as many of the aircraft as possible as they came across the screen. I kept pointing out the P-51’s.

What are your thoughts?

P.S. We also have the WarBikes videos up on youtube, as well as itunes and blip.tv.

Taking advantage of the nearby CAF Arizona Wing boneyard in a search for real pieces of history, Ralph shows his daughter Hunter propeller blades and cockpit rivets from aircraft that once flew.

These battle-tested parts are what is left over from restoration projects involving various aircraft within the CAF fleet. Finding a piece that would work on the Gunfighter bike build makes the field trip worth it. Finding a piece that matches almost perfectly is just bonus.

Watch as one more piece of the motorcycle comes into place thanks to Ralph’s keen eye for unique detail.

War-bikes? Interesting concept.

This is where the original idea was born.

War-Bikes? Interesting concept. And now that I’ve thought about it, well, it makes perfect sense. Motorcycles have been used in combat areas just as fighters in aerial combat. The aviation and motorcycle industries have woven histories for over a hundred years.

So how exactly did WarBikes start?

Let me introduce the Commemorative Air Force.

For those of you who are unaware of this flying history organization, they boast over 9,000 members (known as ‘Colonels’) and have units worldwide. They were originally known as the ‘Confederate Air Force’, pulled together from a bunch of pilots who adopted, restored and flew military aircraft. Bombers. Fighters. Trainers.

They headquarters in Texas and are recognized as “The Official Air Force of Texas” – really. The CAF mission is to acquire, restore and preserve in flying condition a complete collection of combat aircraft which were flown by all military services of the United States, and selected aircraft of other nations, for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations of Americans.

When they decided to celebrate their 50th Anniversary, they came up with the crazy idea of having a motorcycle built to commemorate the Commemorative Air Force.

That was step one.
